Interactive tool helps with PbC

A new interactive CD has been created to help improve practice-based commissioning (PbC) skills and save time in doctors' surgeries.

Provided by the Improvement Foundation, the CD provides practical examples of PbC processes and effective implementation and lists the support sources available.

It also provides information on how to effectively implement PbC to meet the 18 week waiting target.

The CD gained positive feedback when it was trialed at the NHS Confederation annual conference earlier this year.

Dr David Lyon, GP and adviser to the Improvement Foundation, said: "The practice based commissioning CD is an invaluable resource for healthcare commissioners.

"Never before has there been one tool for accessing vital information to support practice based commissioners, so this is a definite time-saver.

"The CD will give clinicians and managers increased confidence in implementing practice based commissioning and thereby improve outcomes for patients."

Ruth Kennedy, chief executive of the Improvement Foundation, said: "This new CD is an extiting development that will be available to all practices, PCTs and other organisaitons interested in PbPbC across England.

"We hope practice based commissioners nationwide will find it useful."
