Teams from NHS and social care organisations across England have scooped national awards at the prestigious final of the 2006 Health and Social Care Awards in a ceremony held last night (Monday 26 February) in London's West End.
The winners, who have demonstrated real improvement and innovation in their work for the benefit of patients, were chosen from more than 1,500 entrants.
The ceremony, hosted by broadcaster Jeremy Vine, attracted an audience of frontline staff from NHS and social care organisations. It followed on from the annual NHS Live event earlier that day, consisting of presentations by frontline organisations showcasing ongoing improvement, development and learning.
Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt, who presented one of the awards, said:
"My warmest congratulations go to all the finalists and especially to the winners in the sixth annual Health and Social Care Awards.
"These Awards are an opportunity for individuals and teams to have their innovation and excellent care recognised and rewarded and it is encouraging to have finalists with such incredibly high standards. It is not only about appreciating these achievements on the night – it is about celebrating the successes, which occur throughout the health and social care sectors on a daily basis.
"For the many people who rely on the two million health and social care staff in England, these awards are a recognition of dedication and expertise. This is a tribute to the high standards of innovative care, which are at the core of the daily business of health and social care workers."
