A senior member of the Clinical Commissioning Coalition will sit on the NHS Commissioning Board’s (NHS CB) Moderation Panel to give CCGs “confidence” in the authorisation process.

In papers published yesterday (12 July) ahead of the NHS CB’s next board meeting on the 19 July, it is proposed a Moderation Panel is to be put into place, chaired by Dame Barabra Hakin, National Director of Commissioning Development.

Membership for the panel is thought to be drawn primarily from the Commissioning Development and Operations Directorates, alongside members of other NHS CB directorates, a national representative of clinical commissioners from the Clinical Commissioning Coalition and external expertise for process assurance.

“It is clear the coalition is trusted and respected within the CCG community,” said Hakin.

“CCGs who have a relationship with the coalition can offer objectivity in their perspectives.”

The Clinical Commissioning Coalition – a joint initiative developed by the NHS Alliance and National Association of Primary Care – is expected to be replaced by the newly formed NHS Clinical Commissioners body – a partnership between the coalition and the NHS Confederation.
