CQC Outstanding rating for care home explained

An outstanding rating was given to Ashcroft House in Somerset, for its “excellent care based on a service culture of continual learning and individuality”.

Ashcroft house, which is managed by 3 Dimensions Care, provides accommodation, support and personal care for three younger adults with moderate to severe autism and communication difficulties.

Adrian Hughes, deputy chief inspector of adult social care in the south, said: "We were struck by the extent to which the service places the people it supports at the heart of everything it does. While this should be standard practice across the sector, we do not see it often enough – and this, amongst other good practice found, is why this service deserves the outstanding rating which has been awarded.”

The report outlined that staff were highly motivated and dedicated team. It also stated that the provider and the registered manager were exceptionally approachable, supportive, and caring toward people, relatives and staff.

Nita Ellul, the director for 3 Dimensions Care limited said: “Motivation is maintained through an innate sense of ‘team’, supported individually by regular supervision, training and personal development. As a company we see our staff as individuals and appeal to their personal ideals and aspirations which reflect the ethos of the company.

“When your inspection happens be yourself and do what you do every day to focus on the voice of your service users. The key to good management is to be consistent with everyone and on all levels, listen to your staff and focus on person-centred care at all times,” she said.

The report said that people’s care and support was continually reviewed using effective quality assurance systems. The quality monitoring information was used to maintain current high standards and to identify and drive service improvement.

“Every effort was made to assist people to participate in and understand decisions about their care and support,” the inspection report said about Ashcroft House.
